WHO WE ARE

Hope is a Box of Gloves
In communities where need is great, life changes when a delivery from SOS arrives. Watch how hope is spreading one delivery at a time.
OUR INTERNATIONAL WORK
“No child should die from a lack of medical care simply because of the country in which they were born.” – Medical Director at Volta Regional Hospital, Ghana
Imagine living in a country where the closest hospital is a 2-day walk and when you arrive, there is only one monitor or no labor and delivery ward. Since 1993, SOS has delivered over $66 in surplus medical supplies to improve healthcare access in areas of desperate need.
OUR LOCAL WORK
“At the lowest point imaginable, SOS brought a stage 4 cancer patient whose home had burned down not only a wheelchair and medical supplies, but compassion,”– a KY Red Cross Nurse Volunteer Manager
The SOS Local Health Program was launched in 2019 to address healthcare gaps in our own state. We now support over 300 community organizations, 30 school districts– and 29 animal welfare nonprofits.
OUR EDUCATIONAL WORK
“SOS inspires young people to choose healthcare careers they never dreamed possible. My students are perfecting skills that will help them get great, rewarding jobs– some right out of high school!” – Taylor County High School Allied Health Science Instructor Lindsay Wayne
Recognizing that education is a health equity issue, SOS formed its Local Education Program in 2019 to support hands-on medical career pathway instruction, connecting students from marginalized communities in Kentucky to bright futures in healthcare.
