Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a key part of collecting and sorting supplies as SOS works to raise public awareness and grow its impact. WE COULD NOT complete its mission to deliver health and hope without the extraordinary efforts of our volunteer program.

Each year, volunteers provide over 19,000 hours of time to SOS! As SOS continues to reach more medically impoverished communities, our need for volunteers grows!

Weekdays

Volunteers in Room 2

Volunteers sort supplies from 9 am – noon every Monday through Thursday.

The Wednesday volunteer shifts are reserved for those with medical background who have prior “first sort” experience.

Saturday Sort Sessions

Individual and Group Volunteers are needed for the regular Saturday Sort Sessions that take place every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 9am – noon.

  • Every second and fourth Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 12 Noon.
  • Please contact SOS to confirm.

In order for SOS to provide an organized and meaningful volunteer experience, SOS requests that all individuals and groups register for these sort sessions.

Please fill out our Volunteer Group Interest form to register for a sort session. Once you receive confirmation, please relay logistic information to your group. Call our office at 502.736.6360 with any questions.

Volunteering FAQs

What Should We Wear?

Our warehouse is partially climate controlled. We invite you to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes.

You may be looking small print on supplies – those who wear “reader/cheaters” consider bringing your glasses.

Can Children Volunteer at SOS?

Due to the nature of the materials volunteers sort (e.g. sharp objects, medical supplies), please be aware that we have a minimum age requirement of 16 years of age.  For children that wish to support the mission of SOS, we welcome the opportunity provide a tour and develop a classroom, club or service project that is fun and educational.
