This #WhyWednesday featuring dedicated SOS volunteer Chris Maddox really hits home. Thank you Spectrum News 1 Kentucky for capturing this story during our free Wheelchair and Repair clinic at VOCAL-Kentucky, a project made possible through a Quality of Life grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

Let's hear it for Chris and for all of our #mobilty repair volunteers who selflessly give their time and talents to improve the lives of those in need in our community. You are truly an example #globalcitizenship, and we are honored to have you on our team!

Every day is #EarthDay at SOS! A big part of our work to impact global health involves re-routing surplus medical equipment and supplies from landfills to the hands of those who use it to save lives. Thank you to our local partners like Baptist Health, UofL Health, Norton Healthcare, and many others for your commitment to SOS and being responsible and compassionate global citizens!

We recently received an incredible update from the Honorable Mustapha Ussif in Ghana were we sent a large donation for the 6 health centers in the region: Yagaba Health Center, Kubori Health Center, Tantala Health Center, Yezesi Health Center, Logri Health Center, and Kunkwa Health Center. Honorable Mustapha is the member of parliament for the YAGABA-KUBORI Constituency, North East Region, and he's also youth sports minister, so we included soccer balls donated by Louisville City FC !

The donation, containing over 10,000 pounds of humanitarian aid, included an anesthesia machine (the first in the district), bassinets, a labor and delivery bed, defibrillators, an infant warmer, an autoclave, anesthesia supplies, general surgery supplies, drapes, dressings, oxygen supplies, OBGYN supplies, and more.

Thank you to our local healthcare partners like UofL Health, Norton Healthcare, Baptist Health and others for making this life-saving work possible.

Let’s hear three #CHEERSFORVOLUNTEERS!

We were visited by the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN) recently. This group of hard working and compassionate folks sorted expired trays and shared with us their passion and purpose... “To create neighborhoods that support every citizen from Prenatal - through Education - to Career.” That's a mission we can all get behind! Thank you for coming in, OSHN!

Can you imagine viewing childbirth as a frightening risk? For some women, this fear is real. As we round out Black Maternal Health Week, we want to share our passion for protecting and caring for mothers and babies around the world.

Last fall, we saw a 24% drop in maternal deaths in just 9 months at St. Anne's hospital in Ghana after we supplied them with over $227,000 worth of equipment and supplies to open a maternity ward.

Right here in our home state, SOS regularly sends large donations to our partners in Owensboro, including St. Gerard's Maternal Home which serves as a safe haven for pregnant woman.

Here's to a world full of mothers and babies living happier, healthier lives.
