We saw a great turnout at our Local Program Open House earlier this month! Representatives from high schools and universities came to "shop" for supplies. Items requested for teaching include incentive spirometers, blood collection needles, saline flushes, IV poles, and more. In total, SOS donated 600lb of medical supplies to support medical education and provide hands-on learning opportunities while saving institutions thousands of dollars. ... See MoreSee Less
As we enter the week of Thanksgiving, the entire team at SOS wants to express our deep gratitude for your support over the past year. Every volunteer hour and financial gift are greatly appreciated by all who are blessed by your generosity.
I am so richly blessed to be surrounded by such mission-driven teammates and supporters like you. Together, we have delivered Health & Hope to families in Kentucky and across the world. We have eased the pain of those suffering and saved lives, like that of Mercilene (pictured here). I met Mercilene four years ago in Uganda where SOS helped build the first clinic in this rural region. Thanks to available medical care, Mercilene was able to be treated for malaria, a leading cause of child fatalities in Africa. Today Mercilene is a thriving six-year-old who excels in school and dreams of being a nurse!
Mercilene is just one of many who come to mind when I think of all the individuals whose lives have been changed by our generous supporters. Thank you for standing with us to make a difference in the world.
We wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving.
These photos from last month show supplies bound for the Dominican Republic. This is the second container we’ve shipped to this hospital in the southwestern region of DR, where the population lacks modern healthcare services and suffers from high levels of child mortality and illnesses. This shipment included an ultrasound, an infant warmer, a labor and delivery bed, and other OBGYN supplies, and is valued over $213,000. We already have a third container in the works for this same hospital! ... See MoreSee Less
Today may be America Recycles Day, but EVERY day at SOS is recycling day. Our work to get critically needed medical supplies to those in need also has a positive environmental impact. By partnering with local and regional hospitals and medical clinics, we divert an average of 2,000 lbs of surplus medical supplies from landfills each month. ... See MoreSee Less
Leading up to Thanksgiving week, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our hard-working crew of full-time volunteers. These include Ginny Sims, who has been serving our mission since 2015! She is a retired pediatric intensive care nurse with a 41-year healthcare career, which is very helpful in guiding our volunteers. Ginny says "It's very positive that we're able to repurpose so many medical supplies, as well as to work with groups to help educate them." SOS is extremely proud and grateful to have Ginny as a part of our team of volunteers. ... See MoreSee Less
